Kunitachi College of Music 100th Anniversary Commemorative Projects: 100th Anniversary Logo Announced and Special Website Launched
Kunitachi College of Music (Read: Kunitachi Ongakudaigaku, Location: Tachikawa City, President: Minoru Umemoto, hereinafter referred to as "our college") is pleased to announce a commemorative project to be launched in 2024 and a special website to celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2026.
Prospectus for the 100th anniversary commemoration project
Kunitachi College of Music, an Tokyo Junior College of Music (Tokyo Music Conservatory), was founded in 1926 (Taisho 15). It has grown into Japan's only private music College, with Kunitachi College of Music Kindergarten, elementary schools, junior high schools, high schools, College, and Graduate School, and will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2026. The "spirit of freedom, autonomy, and self-discipline" that has been instilled in us since our founding is the foundation for nurturing conscientious musicians and educators and contributing to the development of culture both in Japan and abroad. It is also an essential philosophy for carrying on the history and traditions we have built over the past 100 years and embarking on the next 100 years of creativity. Supported by a solid foundation that has always embraced a collaborative educational culture and respect for diversity, Kunitachi College of Music aims to leap forward as a leading runner in music culture in Japan and around the world as we enter the new century.
To widely communicate to society the image of our college as it stands in the next generation, we will carry out activities based on the four pillars of performance/creation, events, publication, and research over the three years from 2024 to 2026, under the commemorative project concept of "Kunion New Century." By utilizing all the strength of "Kunion," which has been cultivated over the course of 100 years, and through ensembles with all of you who have walked and grown alongside us, we will connect the power of music to the future and take on the mission of creating new value.
Commemorative Events
- Performance/Creative Business
In addition to traditional Western music, including opera and symphonies, vocal and instrumental pieces, we also cultivate talent in a wide range of fields, including jazz, contemporary music, computer music, and traditional Japanese music. Through the harmony we create with our alumni and the local community, we will share the results of our college diverse education and research, and engage in performance and creative activities that will contribute to the promotion of global musical culture.
- Event Business
In addition to nurturing the next generation of musicians and educators, the institute will also explore the fusion of music and technology, and take on new forms of expression and performance that utilize digital media, thereby promoting a diverse musical culture.
- Publishing business
We will unravel our 100-year history and traditions, disseminate our college 's consistent music education and the research results based on it to society at large, and carry out activities that demonstrate our college 's vision through content for the future.
- research project
Kunitachi College of Music Library and Collection for Organology, which are at the core of music research in Japan, will publish research results that make use of their respective collections and disseminate information to the world.
About the 100th anniversary logo
We held a public competition to create a visual and sound logo that evokes our 100th anniversary statement, "Kunion New Century," and have now selected the 100th anniversary logo.
The open call for applications was held from September ~ November 2023 for current students, current students, current students, faculty, staff, and alumni from our college Kunitachi College of Music Kindergarten to Graduate School, and received a large number of applications.
As a result of the review by the president of our college and other faculty members, the visual logo was selected by our college alumni, and the sound logo was the work of a current master's student at the Graduate School of Music of our college Graduate School (at the time).
In the sound logo, the younger children of our college Kunitachi College of Music Kindergarten also cooperate with the chant of "Kunion". The fresh energy emitted by the children further enhances the theme of "Kunion New Century". Please listen to it with the ensemble played by current students and alumni of our college.
We also created a motion logo that fuses visual and sound logos. This work is by a graduate who worked on the visual logo, and the dynamic anime fusion that fuses with sound is eye-catching.

To commemorate the 100th anniversary of our founding, our college has also launched a special website.
