Objectives, Three Policies, Policy for Evaluation of Learning Outcomes, Policy for Self-Evaluation (Master's Program)
Purpose
This course provides an education that respects the spirit of freedom, autonomy, and self-reliance, and imparts profound knowledge and techniques from a broad perspective. It cultivates the skills of performance, creation, and research in each major field of music, as well as the outstanding abilities required for occupations that require a high level of expertise, and aims to train musicians and educators who will be able to work in a wide range of fields in Japan and around the world in the future.
Completion Certification Policy
This program awards a master's degree to those who have acquired the following qualities and abilities and are able to utilize them comprehensively. Students must complete the required courses and pass the examination of their master's thesis (final performance, final work, and research project for vocal, instrumental, and composition majors, and master's thesis for musicology and music education majors) and the final examination.
- Have a wide range of knowledge and scholarship not only about music but also about culture and the arts
- Able to give a convincing performance
- Ability to create works based on one's own creative ideas and theories
- Able to conduct specialized research on one's own performance and creation
- Ability to conduct specialized research in the fields of musicology and music education
Policy regarding the organization and implementation of the curriculum
This course is designed and implemented in accordance with the following guidelines in order to develop practical and theoretical skills in performance and composition, as well as research skills in musicology and music education.
- Acquire the basic knowledge and methods necessary for music research at the master's level.
- Conduct advanced education and research in your major or course.
- Teachers in charge of vocal music, instrumental music, and creative writing work with teachers in charge of musicology to provide guidance on research projects.
- Acquire teaching methods in higher education institutions
Student Admission Policy
This course accepts the following students:
- Those who have the knowledge and skills necessary to study this course.
- Those who have the desire to further improve the performance, creative, and research skills they have acquired so far through further study.
- Those who have the ambition to contribute to society in a wide range of fields in Japan and around the world in the future as musicians or educators, or through social activities using music.
Assessment policy for learning outcomes
Based on the three policies of diploma, curriculum, and admissions, Kunitachi College of Music has established methods for measuring and evaluating students' learning outcomes at three levels: institutional level (College as a whole), curriculum level (faculty/graduate school), and subject level (course subject) in order to ensure the quality of education and to work toward continuous improvement.
- Institutional level
The achievement of learning outcomes will be verified based on student graduation/completion rates, absence/dropout rates, career path decisions after graduation/completion, and the results of various surveys. - Curriculum Level
The degree of achievement of learning outcomes will be verified based on the degree of attainment of graduation/completion requirements in the designated educational curriculum of the faculty/graduate school (credit acquisition status, GPA/grade distribution status, learning behavior survey, graduation research, dissertation (problem research), etc.), degree acquisition status, etc. - Subject Level
The degree to which learning outcomes have been achieved for each course will be verified based on the evaluation of the learning objectives set out in the syllabus and the results of class surveys.
Self-Inspection and Evaluation Policy
In order to improve the level of education and research, and to achieve the aims and social mission of the course, the course will self-examine and evaluate the status of its education and research activities.
