Music Education
Faculty of Music, Department of Music Cultures & Education, Music Culture and Education Major, Music Education
Aiming to be a music navigator
It began as the first department in Japan where students could specialize in music education. Students acquire the high level of skill, broad knowledge, and solid leadership skills required of music navigators (guides) who lead various music communities in local communities and schools. Another distinctive feature of Music Education is the emphasis placed on independent and collaborative learning. Students learn the fundamentals of music education in the foundational courses up to their second year, and then in the specialized courses from their third year, they deepen their study and research on topics of interest.
Furthermore, there are also opportunities to deepen and broaden your learning by taking courses in music education or performance/creation.

The February 2025 Ontama will be held in the Parthenon Tama Main Hall, with a record 13 groups performing. The program will conclude with a spectacular chorus of all performers.

Music Education + Conducting / Repetiteur Course, Composition Theory Course
One of the attractions of Music Education is the opportunity to foster exchanges that transcend generations. At the "Ontama" recital, where volunteer choirs from past Music Education come together, I was able to meet many of my seniors, and I was particularly inspired by those who work as teachers. Music teachers are the music specialists closest to children. Rather than forcing a single set of values on them, I want to convey the joy of various types of music from an equal perspective.
Kunion has students from a variety of specializations and majors, and it's an environment where you can meet people from different fields and discover a completely new world of music. The appeal is being able to come into contact with music while specializing in education.
